The Revelation Of Love

1st John 4:10

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

I have often marveled at how many Christians profess their undying love for Jesus, yet have no love in their hearts for men. There is an awesome wave sweeping through the body of Christ right now called GRACE. It is through grace that we are saved and not of ourselves, none of us deserve to be saved, healed, set free from bondage, prospered or even loved. We have all fallen short of being obedient to the commands of God, yet He still loves us and gives us all of the benefits of salvation mentioned above.

We have all been taught that we must obey God and even Jesus gave a command that states we are to love God with all of our hearts, minds, souls and strength and then to love our brothers as ourselves. I think that Jesus knew that it is impossible for any man to do this in and of himself. He always has a way of seeing inside of us and making us realize that we fall short every time. He knew that it has nothing to do with how much we claim to love God but how much God loves us.

The truth of the gospel of grace is that God loves us, even though we are imperfect in our love for him, even though we still sin, even though we speak ill of others and even though sometimes we forget about Him altogether. The truth of the gospel is that when we receive Christ as our savior, God sees only Jesus.

Back to the truth of love though, remember how the Apostle Peter always boasted about how much he loved Jesus? Even when Jesus said that He was going to die, Peter told Him that he would never let that happen, he would defend Him and protect Him and die for Him. What happened to Peter’s undying love for Jesus when they came to arrest Him? It disappeared and Peter fled, not only denying that he ever knew Jesus, but actually cursing. Some love huh?

Now look at the Apostle John. The self described disciple that Jesus loved. He knew nothing about his own love for Jesus and never boasted about any kind of love except the love that Jesus had for him. Where was He? The only disciple able to serve Jesus at the foot of the cross. John had a revelation of how much Jesus loved him and it caused him to be able to love and to serve Jesus in return.

The truth is that the only way to be able to love anyone with our whole heart, mind, soul, and strength is to know how much we are loved by Jesus. The bible says that we are to keep our eyes on Jesus and by doing this we will be transformed into His image by the Holy Spirit. We have been going about it backwards, thinking that only through our love for Him and our obedience to His commands can we find peace and fellowship with Him. The truth is He is the only way that we can find peace and it is His obedience that sets us free.

When you truly get a revelation of how much Jesus loves you your life will suddenly transform into the image of His. Focus on His love for you, He is the bread of life, and the river of living water. If you never want to hunger or thirst again eat of this bread and drink of this water. Jesus is the way, truth and life, focus on Him, keep your heart, mind and soul on Him and let Him do the rest. Remember, it is the goodness of God that leads to repentance not obedience or your love for Him.

Be Blessed,
