The Life of Jesus is The Light of Men

Genesis 1:3

Then God said, “Let there be light”;

and there was light.

At the instruction of the Lord, I have been revealing Jesus in all the law and prophets; starting in Genesis 1 all the way through to Malachi 4.  Just as Jesus revealed Himself to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, setting their hearts on fire by doing so.  He is the life to the letter of the words.

All of us, by now have heard and know the first words that God spoke concerning the earth as recorded in Genesis.  “Let there be light.”  We have heard it preached front ways and backwards and every way in between, but have we seen Jesus in them? We must remember that Jesus is the life of the words, and the word was made flesh, or given life, and dwelt among us. (John 1:14)

The light that is spoken into existence here, by God must be different than what we think of as light. You are probably scratching your head about now and wondering what I am talking about.  If you will notice this light was spoken into existence before anything that we now can see that gives off light.  The sun and moon and stars and all other light giving things were not yet created.  So what light was brought forth?

John 1: 3-5

All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made

that was made, In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light

shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

The Hebrew word for light used in Genesis 1, (our), and the Greek word for light used in John, (phos), have very similar meanings.  The Hebrew word means illumination, not as the body that gives off illumination, but the very illumination itself.  The Greek word means to shine, or make manifest.

When I see this and meditate on these two scriptures together, what is revealed is the Son of God, Jesus Christ. The light that was brought forth was the very glory of God, and the power that gives men eternal life with Him.  This light, or glory surrounded Adam and Eve actually clothing them in it.  It was this life that empowered them to live eternally with God.

When they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, this life of men, or this light disappeared, and they knew that they were naked.  This nakedness was more than just not having any cloths on, it meant that they were now left without any life, the light of men, or life of Jesus did not cover them anymore.  Without Jesus we too, are left naked, without life and protection.

Through the unfailing love of our Father in heaven, Jesus, who was the life and the light of men that was lost in the garden was sent into the world as our sin offering.  His obedience, that took Him to the cross, is the demonstration of the Fathers great love for us.

We are also told that His light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it. (John 1:5) This is also shown in the death of Jesus on the cross, because if the enemy had known, or comprehended who this man was that was shining so brightly in this world, he never would have done what he did.

Now, because Jesus was obedient unto death, even the death on the cross, all of the punishment for all sin has been paid in full.  The wrath of the Father that came through our sins was totally exhausted in the body of Jesus. He died for us and in return He gives us back the life or the light that surrounded Adam and Eve in the garden. It is not something that we could ever earn or deserve, it is His free gift to all of us who believe in Him.

If you have been surrounded by the darkness, without the light of men that gives eternal life with God, then receive the free gift of life found only in Jesus.  He died so that you could shine forth the glory of God as you were created to do.  The life comes only through the shedding of blood, and Jesus shed His blood so that His light could once again be the life of men.

Thank you and be blessed,

Joe D. Willis
